Volunteer wanted

volunteer wantedCANCER SUPPORT FRANCE PROVENCE GARD supports English-speaking people living in France who are touched directly or indirectly by cancer, whatever their country of origin.

Tim Forster, the Association president said: “Finding out you have cancer turns your world upside down. Living in a foreign country brings the added challenge of trying to manage your illness in a language which is not your own. Our highly-trained team of Active Listeners - many of them bilingual - offer vital emotional, linguistic and practical support to cancer patients, their carers and families. They visit clients in hospital or in their own home to offer emotional support; accompany them to medical consultations to help with translations; guide them to essential information; help them deal with the French healthcare system, and offer practical assistance and support during times of crisis. Our volunteers, whose training is ongoing, operate in the strictest confidentiality to ensure a fully professional service to CSF’s clients.”

In these early days of our Association we have three key aims:

  1. and most important is to build awareness among the English-speaking community of Provence and the Gard, so anyone who needs us can find us.
  2. we need people who are prepared to volunteer - either to train as Active Listeners or to become Active Members, offering practical assistance to our clients with driving or shopping. We also need volunteers to help with events, publicity, fundraising etc. You do not have to speak French to volunteer although we are particularly keen to hear from English speaking people with a good command of French.
  3. is to raise funds through events and donations. We are urgently in need of people prepared to help set up events , big and small, in and around Provence.
